Apple Honey Pizza
Hey all!
Okay, so this is NOT an original recipe at all, I will leave a link to the real recipe at the end, but I am going to write what I did and what I used to make it my own. This is such an easy, fun and different kind of pizza to make, so if you want to do something unique for pizza night then look no further!
Ingredients:
1 yellow onion, julienned
2 sprigs of thyme
2 sprigs of rosemary ( I just used dried rosemary but i'm sure fresh would be a lot better)
1 apple, thinly sliced ( try not to get a super sweet apple, I used a Pink Lady but I think a Granny Smith would work a little better since it isn't as sweet, but again, whatever you can get, It isn't that big of a deal)
shredded sharp cheddar cheese
A handful of Arugula
a spoonful of honey, for drizzling on top
red pepper flakes ( obviously)
balsamic glaze
Now this is what I did very different from the recipe. It calls for you to make your own pizza dough which I respect but also I knew that there was perfectly good pizza dough already made at Trader Joe's and I am lazy, so I bought the dough, and loved how much time it saved me.
Directions:
First, put the sliced onions in a pan with olive oil and that sprig of thyme, low-medium heat, and smell that wonderfulness, cook until the onions are brown and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes
Set oven to 500 degrees
As the onions are cooking roll out the dough, now the pre-made dough is a lot so I would cut off half of the dough and save the other half or use it all but make double the pizza. Roll the dough and be generous with the flour so it doesn't stick, roll it pretty thin, about 1/4"
Put the dough on a pizza stone ( if you're fancy) or a sheet pan ( like I used!!! Gotta love being poor!)
drizzle olive oil on your dough then evenly spread the caramelized onions and the shredded cheese on top, followed by the thinly sliced apples and the rosemary
crack some pepper on top and sprinkle the crust with sea salt
put in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is nice and crispy and golden
Now is the fun part! Drizzle the honey and shake some red pepper flakes, then throw the Arugula on there and finally, drizzle some balsamic glaze to finish it off!
Enjoy, Sans filter!
